These people are SCAM artists! They will try to defraud you out of your hard earned money!!! Please see the warning from Kansas' Attorney General website: http://www.ksag.org/page/consumer-alert-attorney-general-warns-kansans-of-debt-collection-scam I am a criminal lawyer in Texas, and I got involved because a client called me after they called her. My client informed me that someone called her from the Law Office of Kevin Foster threatening her arrest on a federal felony if she did not give her information and make a payment. She got upset and yelled at them over the phone, and they told her that she would be arrested at her job in an hour if she did not comply. They left this 408 area code phone number as the call back number, although the caller ID listed 1111111111 as the calling number. Then the client called me seeking advice. She was scared by what they said, and believed she might have a felony warrant for her arrest. But, she was so upset by these people's call, that she left the phone conversation not knowing anything about to whom she owed the money and why. [My client got the call yesterday, April 7th, at around 1:00pm CT. I started calling them to try to figure out who they were about an hour later.] I did a bit of research on this "Kevin Foster" and recognizing that 408 is a San Jose, California, area code, I contacted the State Bar of California. They informed me that the only Kevin Foster in their membership died in 2001. They also informed me that I was the 4th phone call today regarding such a situation. However, she could not definitely link all of the calls as being from the same people, despite the similar facts. I called the number back on behalf of my client. The background was very loud, to the point where I could not understand the person who answered the phone. I realized that I was speaking with someone with a heavy Indian accent. He told me that he was with the "cyber crime division," and that was all he would say. I pressed him for the name of his company, and he repeated "cyber crime division." I asked him what company again, clarifying my request on the basis that, if you are the "cyber crime division," you must be a "division" of some company-- WHAT COMPANY?? He finally told me, "Cash Loans." He asked me for my name, and I told him I wanted the company's address. He responded, "Los Angeles, CA." I told him that that was not an address, rather, a city, and I asked him again. He then started pressing me for information. I gave him a fake name and phone number. I asked him the name of his company again, and he said, "quickpayday.com." He then started telling me that I owed money to someone, which I knew to be fake, because I gave him a fake name and phone number! I told them I don't owe them a muthafuckin thing, and they got mad and hung up on me. I called back, and again was told that this was the "cyber crime division." I asked the name of the company and this time, was told "quickpayday.NET." This time, I told them that they hung up on me a minute ago, and I guess the guy connected the dots and concluded it was me again. Again, I pressed him for the company's address, and he hung up on me. I called back again. They again told me I've reached the cyber crime unit." This time, I asked was this a law firm, and the guy on the phone said yes. I asked who's law firm it was, and he told me "David Walker." I asked if there was a Kevin Foster in the office, and he said there was, and I asked to speak with him. He put me on hold, and the very same guy picked up the phone and said he was "Kevin Walker." I asked him if he was an attorney. He said "yes." I asked him where he was licensed, and he said "California." At which point I said, "No, you're not." I told him that I was an attorney licensed in Texas, and that I had just spoken with the California Bar Association, and they informed me that the only Kevin Foster that was ever a member was deceased. At that point, the man said, "OK, my name is really Gary Miller." I said to him, "is it Gary, Kevin or David? Either way, you aren't an attorney, so don't bu***hit me." He said, "OK, OK, OK." I said, "Now, what's the name of your company-- is it "Cash Loans," "quickpayday.com," "quickpayday.net," or a law firm." He then asked me what I wanted. I told him that I have called 3 times before, and recorded all of the phone calls, and that I would be going to the FTC, the Texas Attorney General, the California Attorney General, the FBI, and the Harris County District Attorney's office with the tapes. Then, he asked me why I was harrassing him, to which I responded, "how does it feel?" He hung up on me. 3 hours later, no one answers the phone over there... surprise surprise! IT'S A SCAM! Call the attorneys general of your state and of California file a complaint with them giving the phone number, and as much identifying information as possible. Then complain to the FTC. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION!! They already have your name and phone number, and a few other identifying pieces of information on you, which is pretty scary. But, don't give them anything else. And, I'd set up a credit monitoring system just to cover my a**. I don't know where they got the information from, but it sounds like they should not have it or like it may be stolen...
