Please have this number removed as I am disabled and not in the best health and they are continually bothering me. I can not change my phone number please help.

Tim, in answer to your question, the company that dispersed the phone number, a company out of Colorado called live3.com Communications, the "hacker" has manipulated the phone network system and made this 572 number appear on people's ID's when the person that owns that phone number, is completely oblivious. Live3.com has run a query on that guy's phone number and he isn't the perpetrator. Someone is masking another call using the 540-572 caller ID. This spoofed number seems to be being used exclusively by this so-called Smart Smoker telemarketer, and may in fact even be an overseas network since the few people who have managed to talk to them report it sounding like a call center and the guy having a heavy east Indian type accent. I don't know if that answers your question, but hope so.

I just talked to a Comcast supervisor about this phone hacking problem. He said it is "spoofing" where geeks phish phone numbers and have a computer calling automatically and when they get a hit (someone answers phone) they put it on a list that they sell to telemarketers, etc. I'm not sure this situation is quite that simple. It seems to be more intricate. He said he's seen a lot but never anything quite like this situation. I was given a new and unlisted phone number which he said is about the only way to stop it. I'm also talking to their legal department and with the Attorney General. This, as I have said, is the dark side of the Internet and the problem with putting your information out there.

I made the dumbass mistake of clicking on an email sent to me 12/11/09. The link is: http://coupan.smokingeverywhere.com/form_gift2.php I put in my name, ph # and email, but didn't submit. They somehow collected my info, and now I've gotten 7 calls toady since 13:30. Gov DNC list doesn't help, calling them back doesn't help, FCC and FATC doesn't help. So what now? UPDATE: Just got a call as I was writing rgis. Got a woman who couldn't speak English. I yelled at her telling her I had complained to the FCC, FTC, DNC List and told her if I got another call I would be seeking legal help. Now we'll see...

FURTHER DIGGING REVEALED FURTHER FACTS ABOUT THE 540-572-4104 CALLS. I just talked to a tech in the Fraud Department of level3.com Communications out of Colorado. I asked if they had had any reports of abuse of the above phone number and they had had many. Because of the high trust people have tend to have in the caller ID system, spoofing can call the system's value into question. ----------------- The technician said that someone is manipulating the phone system to illicitly show this 540-572 number on the caller ID but he said their customer (not me) who owns this number is not making the calls. Level3.com can and has run a query on the number and pull up every number they have called. They are definitively NOT making the calls.....and I AM NOT MAKING THE CALLS FROM MY PHONE. The fraud tech suggested that each person who is receiving this spoofed calls needs to contact their phone company and tell them their number is being spoofed and give them the details. Hopefully someone can solve this issue soon. Personally I think this is being done out of country, but who knows.
