on 9/29/08 at 6:38pm a number on my caller idea showed up as: 062-286-7741. The number showed up on our caller ID quite frequently around the same time for the last several months, but usually I just ignored the call….. but that evening I decided to answer. An automated voice picked up and said something about lowering credit card interest %'s, and that this was the last day to take advantage of the offer, press 2 to speak w/ someone. So I pressed 2 and a guy by the name of "Christopher Jones" came on the phone. He was very polite & very professional. He began talking about their offer and the info he needed from us to qualify. I asked what his company name was and he said the company name was “Credit Services” out of Atlanta, GA. He then proceeded to see if I would qualify for his special offer which was lowering ALL of my credit cards to 8.9%. Then he went on to talk about how their company is different from credit repair companies and different from the credit card promotional companies because their company does not affect your credit card rating, and the 8.9% interest rate is for the lifetime, not just a promotion or something available w/ balance transfers. I asked a series of questions: Do I have to pay for this service? He said “no….” which lead me to my next question of: How does your company make their money…he said that the credit card companies pay them a %, but that I would not be responsible to pay anyone anything…I just get to take advantage of the rate risk free… he then began to get into asking questions to determine if I could qualify for the promotion. He asked: How much debt I had, He needed to verify that I had more than $1500 in credit card debt He needed to verify that I made all payments on time and at least the minimum payments He needed to verify that I was not already involved with any credit card promotions I verified all of that information and then he said the final item was for me to provide him with one of the credit card numbers so that he can call the bank to verify the credit line and verify that payments were made on time, etc. I told him that my husband handles all of the bills, so, I tried to get my husband on the phone, but of course he was busy mowing the lawn and wasn’t about to stop to talk to someone about a credit card interest rate promotion. While I was trying to motion my husband to come inside….Christopher made small talk w/ me, telling me about his wife and his 16 month old son….then I began to talk about my 2 year old son, and was interrupted by my husband telling me to hang up the phone…. I requested for Christopher to call back and speak w/ my husband the next day. So today… at 6:11pm Christopher Jones called back from: 678-741-5400 (DM Associates). He made small talk again because he could hear my son speaking in the background. He requested to speak w/ my husband and my husband got on phone and asked a few hardball questions of his own. All of which, Christopher Jones seemed to handle very well and with confidence and professionalism. However, my husband (very smart man) requested the company name again and said that he wanted to do some research on the company before making a decision. He requested that Christopher Jones call back tomorrow evening. To that, Christopher’s voice seemed to change…he got really bent out of shape and said that he would “try” to call back tomorrow around the same time. We did some research on the company, and didn’t find luck w/ the very general company name of “credit services” but we did find consumer information by doing searches on the 2 phone numbers…. All the info from those numbers lead us to believe this was a scam. I can’t wait for Christopher to call back tomorrow so I could ask him how his 16 month year old son would feel if he knew his daddy was part of a scam organization…..very sad. I’m glad my husband had the brains to smell the scam before we became victims!
